About Half of Them

by | Blog, General, Magic

Zig Ziglar was my favorite motivational speaker.

At one of the darkest points in my life, I read his book, See You at the Top, and it changed my life.

From that moment, I determined that I would see him speak live and in person.

I accomplished that goal not once but many times.

Zig was a great storyteller.

One story he often told was of a business friend of his.

Zig asked him, “About how many people do you have working for you?”

The man replied, “About half of them.”

This was a hilarious answer but also incredibly sad.

Zig also said, “Many people quit looking for work as soon as they find a job.”

For many years, even decades, I have wanted to be an entrepreneur.

I am 60 now, and I have worked for a company since I was 20.

Being self-employed requires many adjustments.

One is that I get paid when someone purchases a product or service from me.

If I don’t sell a product or service, then I don’t get paid.

When you have a weekly paycheck coming in, you don’t have to be as concerned about an “off” day, but there are no off days when you are an entrepreneur.

What if every employee in America saw themselves as entrepreneurs?

What if they didn’t say, “I finally found a job, now I can relax.”

What if they put as much time and effort into their daily work as they did in their job search?

This is what Zig was getting at when he shared his stories.

We get out of our career what we put into it and, as Zig said, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.”

Have a great day,
